Introduction

This site shares information about the number of first ascents and new routes that Fred Beckey climbed, along with who he climbed with. It also includes a list of routes and peaks named after him, in addition to data on where he climbed.

The various statistical analysis articles are labeled as chapters. You don't need to read them in numerical order. But I do recommend you read Chapter 1, first. Before reading Chapter 14 about Beckey’s Greatest Climbing Year, I suggest you review Chapters 10-13, to familiarize yourself with lists of climbs in North America and Washington State, indicating the quality or difficulty of routes or peaks. These four lists are the key criteria that I used to help determine Beckey's greatest climbing year.

Chapters 15-17 contain summit register entries which should be of historical interest and prove to be entertaining. A couple of the entries provide the subtitle for this site. The three summit register chapters also includes bonus material of entries from other prominent climbers and interesting incidents. Also check out the quiz game about Fred Beckey.

For those who are not statistically minded, Chapters 18 and 19 will spark controversy and debate. Chapter 18 covers Beckey's service in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. While Chapter 19 explains Beckey’s reaction to not being accepted on the 1963 American Expedition to Mt Everest, along with my critical assessment of the 1955 Lhotse Expedition, the pretext for Beckey not being accepted.

The following pages on this website are under construction: Chronological List of  Climbs, List of Climbs by Location and List of First Ascents and New Routes. I will post links to these lists upon completion.
